At Dove PR, we've always been passionate about supporting East London's incredible creative community. So when Waltham Forest Council asked us to coordinate this year's William Morris Design Line, we jumped at the chance to help showcase the amazing businesses right on our doorstep.

What is the William Morris Design Line?
If you haven't heard of it yet, the William Morris Design Line (WMDL) is an annual open studios event that transforms parts of Leyton and Walthamstow into a destination for design lovers. For three days in September (19th-21st), creative businesses open their doors to the public, offering a behind-the-scenes look at everything from slow fashion design to audio equipment manufacturing.

How Did We Get Involved?
Since lockdown, we've been running the @argallwayleyton Instagram account, celebrating the brilliant businesses along Argall Avenue and Argall Way in Leyton. We were involved in last year's WMDL on the Argall side, so when the council was looking for someone to coordinate the whole event across both Leyton and Walthamstow, we were the natural choice.
It's a perfect fit for us - we understand the local creative scene, we know the challenges small businesses face, and we're genuinely excited about helping these incredible makers get the recognition they deserve.

What Does Coordination Actually Mean?
Our role covers everything from marketing and social media to event logistics. We're creating targeted email campaigns to encourage businesses to take part, managing the social media buzz across multiple channels, and working with participants to help them make the most of the weekend.
The William Morris Design Line will be officially part of London Design Festival 2025, which means proper design world attention for all the participating businesses. Our job is to make sure that attention translates into real visitors, genuine connections, and tangible benefits for everyone involved.

Why This Matters to Us
This project perfectly aligns with our core mission at Dove PR - supporting local businesses to thrive. We've seen firsthand how events like this can transform a business's visibility. Last year's participants told us stories about meeting new clients over a cup of tea, gaining dozens of new social media followers, and - perhaps most importantly - properly connecting with their neighbours for the first time.
Small creative businesses often work in isolation, especially in converted industrial units where you might not even know who's in the next unit. The William Morris Design Line breaks down those barriers and creates genuine community connections.

The Logistics Challenge
Coordinating an event across two different areas - Blackhorse Road in Walthamstow and Argall Avenue in Leyton - presents some interesting marketing challenges. Each area has its own character, its own community, and its own social media ecosystem.
We're developing tailored campaigns for each location whilst maintaining the cohesive WMDL brand. It's exactly the kind of community-focused, multi-channel marketing project that gets us excited.

Want to Be Part of It?
If you're a creative business in the Argall Avenue or Blackhorse Road area, there's still time to get involved. The deadline for registration is Monday 30th June, and honestly, it's one of the best free marketing opportunities you'll get all year.
You don't need to do anything fancy - some businesses just open their doors and chat to visitors about what they do. Others offer demonstrations or studio tours. The key is just being there and being yourself.
Register your interest here - you can always change the details closer to the time.

Looking Ahead
Events like the William Morris Design Line prove that East London's creative community is stronger when it works together. We're proud to be part of making that happen, and we can't wait to see Blackhorse Road and Argall Avenue buzzing with visitors this September.
If you're working on a community project or event that needs marketing support, social media management, or just someone who understands the local landscape, we'd love to chat. Drop us a line - we're always up for supporting brilliant local initiatives.
The William Morris Design Line runs 19-21 September 2025 across Leyton and Walthamstow. Registration closes Monday 30th June 2025.
