Press Release: Walthamstow local The Tavern on the Hill to Reopen Under New Management from Award-winning Leytonstone Tavern Team

Much-loved neighbourhood pub set to reopen 29th August following takeover by independent hospitality group Taverns East.

Walthamstow, London - The Tavern on the Hill in Higham Hill, Walthamstow, is set to reopen on Friday, 29th August, under exciting new management, bringing the award-winning expertise and great hospitality from the team behind the celebrated Leytonstone Tavern to this cherished local institution.

The historic pub, located on Higham Hill, has been taken over by Taverns East, an independent hospitality group founded by two East London friends, Ronnie Finch and Jamie Tack, who share a passion for great hospitality, destination food and decent pints in proper boozers. The group includes the much-acclaimed Leytonstone Tavern, which has built a widespread reputation for community spirit and destination food, earning multiple awards, including Street Food Championship wins in 2022 and 2024, and National Burger Awards finalist status in 2023.

Local residents can look forward to the same passionate approach to quality and community that has made the Leytonstone Tavern a beloved fixture in the E11 area. The Tavern on the Hill will maintain its role as a true neighbourhood pub whilst delivering destination food, expanding Taverns East's proven concept to this historic venue. The team's approach centres on exceptional, well-sourced, high-quality ingredients and recipes made in-house, even down to the salt they use.

"As East London locals and pub owners since 2013, we understand how important the neighbourhood pub is to the community," said Ronnie Finch, co-founder of Taverns East, and owner of East London Brewing, "we're here to bring the same passion and quality that's made the Leytonstone Tavern such a success. We're expanding our independent hospitality group, building on what we've achieved at the Leytonstone Tavern and recreating what works there at Tavern on the Hill."

The reopening comes at an exciting time for Walthamstow's thriving food and drink scene, representing a significant investment by Taverns East, who recognise the area's potential as both a destination for quality dining and a vibrant local community hub. The pub's expansive outdoor seating areas, located at the front, side, and rear, provide an ideal setting for both intimate gatherings and larger celebrations.

Following a brief refurbishment period, the pub will initially open from Wednesday to Sunday, featuring exciting destination street food, focusing on the team's winning hand-pressed burgers, including signature burgers exclusive to Tavern On the Hill. With head chef and co-founder Jamie Tack leading the culinary direction, the venue will launch its full offering, including Sunday roasts, from September.

The pub will feature an extensive and rotating list of beers from East London Brewing Company, with Blackhorse Beer Mile favourites including Pretty Decent, Signature Brew, and Exhale Brewery rotating through the remaining taps, celebrating the area's fiercely independent brewing scene. Beyond the exceptional beer selection, the drinks offering extends to carefully crafted cocktails and a coffee programme using local roaster Perky Blenders, ensuring something for everyone, whether they're after a pint, a cocktail, or a great cup of coffee.

For Higham Hill residents, the reopening marks the return of their treasured local, enhanced by a team with proven credentials in creating welcoming, community-focused venues that celebrate both exceptional food, great hospitality, and the vital role of the fiercely independent neighbourhood pub.
